Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the app Matrix Reasoning Trainer (Matristräning) and the website matristest.se handle your data. The app is developed by Petter Höglander, an independent developer in Sweden.

In short

The app has no login, no ads and no tracking across apps. Your results and statistics stay on your phone. The app sends anonymous usage statistics, such as which screens are used and how tasks are answered, so that we can improve it. You can turn this off in Settings.

1. What is stored on your phone

The app stores the following locally, in its own storage area:

  • Your settings: language, timer, and how the level is chosen while practising
  • How many tasks you have practised, and for each rule type how many you have seen and how many you answered wrongly
  • Your completed tests: date, level, number correct, time per task and which option you chose, so that the review can be opened again
  • Whether the purchase has been made, as a copy of Apple's latest answer so that the app works offline

This is never sent to us or to anyone else. It is included in your phone's regular backup if you have backups turned on, as for any other app.

2. Anonymous usage statistics

To understand how the app is used, and to improve it, the app sends events about usage. An event is, for example, that the app was opened, that a certain screen was shown, that a practice session or a test was started, finished or abandoned, that a task was answered (with the task's level, rule types and whether the answer was correct), that the purchase page was shown, or that a purchase was made.

Each event carries:

  • A random ID created when the app is installed. It says nothing about who you are, is not linked to your Apple account or your purchase, and disappears when you delete the app
  • The app version and the chosen language

The following is never sent: name, email address, advertising identifier, location, purchase receipt, or anything stored on your phone as described in section 1. The app does not record the screen and does not automatically collect what you tap.

The events are received and stored by PostHog, acting as our data processor, on servers within the EU. As with all internet traffic, the recipient sees your IP address when the event is received. We have turned off location lookup on it and do not store it. No profiles of individual users are created. The data is not sold, not shared with others and not used for advertising.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app. You turn it off under Settings → Share anonymous usage statistics. When it is off, nothing is sent.

3. Purchase

The purchase that unlocks the app is made through Apple's App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple, under Apple's Privacy Policy. The app asks the App Store whether the purchase has been made. We receive no personal data about you from Apple, only aggregated sales figures.

4. What does not exist

  • No account and no login
  • No ads, no advertising identifier and no tracking across apps and websites
  • No screen recording and no crash reports sent to us
  • No third-party software library in the app. The usage statistics are sent by code we have written ourselves

5. Deleting your data

Settings → Reset statistics deletes your history and rule statistics on the phone. Deleting the app removes everything the app has stored, including the random ID. The purchase stays with Apple and can be restored if you install the app again.

6. Children

The app is not directed at children and treats all users alike, as described in this policy.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. The simplest way to object is to turn off usage statistics as described in section 2. Because the ID is random and not shown anywhere, we cannot link stored events to you as a person. Your results and statistics exist only on your phone. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; in Sweden that is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

8. Changes

If the app changes so that it handles data differently, this page is updated and the date at the top shows when.

9. This website

matristest.se is a static website with no cookies, no tracking and no login. The sample runs entirely in your browser, and your answers are sent nowhere. The pages are served by GitHub Pages, which as the hosting provider sees your IP address when a page is fetched, under GitHub's privacy statement. We keep no visitor logs.
