Every attempt costs
In Sweden the supervised test costs 495 SEK. Miss the 98th percentile and the next attempt costs the same.

Every attempt costs, and the same test form can only be retaken after two years.
In Sweden the supervised test costs 495 SEK. Miss the 98th percentile and the next attempt costs the same.
The tasks are built from a few rules. If you have seen them, you recognise them during the test instead of learning the format while the clock runs.
Mensa’s own practice test has 24 tasks in 10 minutes. The app always has a new task, and the explanation says exactly what you missed.
Top rated on the App Store
People who trained with the app raised their level by two steps on average from their first test to their latest.
Two levels on a test like this can be the difference between moving on in the hiring process and getting the job, or being screened out.
Got the job. After a couple of hours of practice I felt really confident.
The easiest app I tried. Nice not to need a subscription.
I could see which principles I had missed and learn them.
Same format: three by three cells, one missing. Explanation after every answer.

According to Mensa Sweden’s FAQ and practice test, read on 5 November 2026. Other national Mensas may differ. Matrix Reasoning Trainer is independent and has no connection to Mensa. Mensa is a trademark of its owner. The level in the app is the app’s own scale, not a prediction of the result on any other test.
Yes, the format. The tasks are non-verbal matrices built from a few rule types. If you have seen them, you do not have to learn the format during the test.
A result above the 98th percentile on the supervised test. In Sweden it costs 495 SEK and is open from age 18.
No. The app is independent and the tasks are our own.

What the format is, how to approach a task, and answers to what people usually ask.
A matrix reasoning test, often called a logic test, abstract reasoning test or aptitude test, measures the ability to see patterns in figures. Each task is a grid of three by three cells. Eight of them contain figures that follow one or more rules, and the ninth is missing. The task is to find the rules and choose the option that fits the empty cell.
The rules hold in both rows and columns and govern different parts of the figure: shape, number, size, fill, direction, lines at the edge or a dot that moves. The easiest tasks have one rule. The hardest have three or four at once, and the options differ in one detail only.
The format is common in recruitment, as part of the screening before interviews, and it can be practised. Someone who has seen the format before loses no time working out the task and goes in calmer. More is on the pages What is a matrix reasoning test and Logical reasoning tests in recruitment.
The format settles in after a few days. What matters is having seen every rule type and having done a few tasks against the clock. A few focused sessions give more than weeks of scattered practice.
Practice makes a difference on this type of task. Someone who knows the format does not have to learn it during the test, makes fewer careless mistakes and uses the time better. Nobody can promise a result, and the level in the app is the app's own scale.
The words are used interchangeably. Aptitude test is the broad term for tests that measure thinking. Logic test is the part about patterns and inference. Matrix test is the format: a grid of three by three figures with one cell missing.
The app has eighteen rule types: step by step change, three values distributed, constant, patterns combined, patterns cancelling out, patterns in common, arithmetic on the number, movement along a path, mirroring, rotation of the whole cell, nested figures, number of sides, degree of fill, conditional rule, covariation, slot by slot combination, growing step and turn and change in the cross. The answer tells you which ones applied in each task. Every rule has a page of its own with a solved example.
Yes. The Alva Labs logic test is built on matrix tasks of the same kind: three by three figures, one cell missing, rising difficulty. Matrix Reasoning Trainer is independent and has no connection to Alva Labs. More about the format is under Good preparation for the Alva Labs logic test.
